Liberty of conscience and lawful speech

Tier 2 - Grave Compromise

Doctrine surface for religious liberty, lawful speech, assembly, petition, compelled speech, censorship, and related civil-liberty concerns.

Principle: God alone is Lord of the conscience; civil rulers must not punish lawful witness or compel sin.

Scripture: Acts 4:19-20, Acts 5:29, Proverbs 31:8-9

Reformed rationale: God alone is Lord of the conscience. Civil rulers may not rightfully compel sin, suppress faithful witness, or punish lawful truth-telling simply because it inconveniences power.
